The Vancouver Island Heather Society is gathering in Mill Bay on Oct. 5 to hear guest speaker Jeff de Jong.
There will be door prizes and refreshments at the event, where enthusiasts will learn more about heathers and appropriate plants to include in a heather garden.
De Jong is a horticulturalist with more than 20 years of gardening experience. He works as a horticulture instructor and graduated from (as well as taught at) Olds College in Alberta. He has won several awards for garden design and has worked as head gardener at Abkhazi Garden in Victoria. He also writes about gardens and leads gardening tours around the world. He has hosted Gardening 101 on CFAX 1070 for more than four years.
His topic at the gathering will be “Companion Plants for Heathers”.
It all starts at 7 p.m. at Sylvan United Church, on Shawnigan Mill Bay Road in Mill Bay.
