Plett is a teacher, facilitator, and international speaker who previously published The Art of Holding Space. Plett is the co-founder of the Centre for Holding Space and has trained people worldwide in her Holding Space Practitioner Program. Originally from Winnipeg, Plett moved to Shawnigan Lake at the start of this year and is already in love with the region.

Where Tenderness Lives is an exploration of what it means to unravel what we’ve learned from our families, societies, religions, and cultures in order to heal and create a purposeful and joyful life. Each chapter reveals how one can move from the shadows of fear and doubt to freedom and joy.

“I’ve taught a lot of workshops and retreats internationally and online, and as I’ve done so, I’ve encountered a lot of people who are doing deep personal work to heal trauma, evolve their belief systems, and learn to love themselves more,” said Plett. “After writing my first book, The Art of Holding Space (teaches the practice of holding space), I asked myself what would be needed next to support people in learning to hold space for themselves. Since I use personal stories as the basis for much of my teaching, I decided to write a really personal book about the healing work that I’ve done, hoping that people can connect with my stories in order to do their own work.”

“We are so lucky that Heather has recently moved here so that we can bring her books and ideas directly to our community,” said Melanie Watson who is charge of marketing and events with Volume One. “This is the first time that we have offered a workshop around a book launch and it is because this is also what Heather does, she teaches and facilitates locally and internationally, bringing a wealth of knowledge and personal experience of healing from trauma and being kind to oneself.”

Tickets for this workshop and launch are $10 and are available in advance at Volume One or at the door the day of the event.

“The more healing work I do for myself, and the more I support others in their healing, the more clear it is for me that one of the most important things we can do is learn to be tender with ourselves and each other,” said Plett. “In this workshop, I want to invite people to learn how to hold space for themselves with tenderness, vulnerability, and honesty. I want them to walk away feeling a little more in love with themselves and a little more self-compassionate. I believe that tenderness offers us a pathway not only to personal liberation, but collective liberation.”
