Check out our video of the costume contests and more from Youbou’s Halloween celebration

Youbou Hall was alive with happy shrieks, costumed children dashing about and a buzz of conversation on Oct. 31 as the Cowichan Lake district welcomed Halloween with its traditional, exciting event.

Everyone was dressed in their brightest for the costume contest, which included entries from babies to adults.

With emcee Mike Bishop at the microphone and Vicki Ordano marshalling the contestants, the big crowd watched the costume parade of the various categories.

The winners were: Birth to two years: Lyle Fraser (first), Serena Khan (second), Elodie Fraser (third); three and four year olds: Liam White (first), Emirah Khan (second), Infinity Wardle (third); five and six year olds: Tristen Andersen (first), Addison Smycniuk (second) Landen Hartshorn (third); seven and eight year olds: Landen McCallum (first), Johnny Blodel (second), Chase Carter (third); nine and 10 year olds: Tristan de Cunha (first), Amber Alexander (second), Gavin Merick (third); 11 and 12 year olds: Hunter Rowe (first), Roselyn Baird (second), Lara Court (third); 13 to 16 year olds: Odhin Rowe (first); over 17 years: Jocelyn Buyen (first), Mark Smycniuk (second) Doug Kimm, third.

Meanwhile, upstairs at the hall, organizers had prepared another of their popular Haunted Houses for 2017.

The room winners in the haunted house were: Clown Room (first), Ghost Room (second) and Theatre Room (third).

After the events in the hall were completed, everyone was invited to the Yount School field nearby to enjoy a fireworks display put on by the Youbou fire department.
