Former corrections worker has found joy in art after assault

Artcetera, a solo exhibition of art by Angela Cannon, is on display right now at Portals Art Space

Artcetera, a solo exhibition of art by Angela Cannon, is on display right now at Portals Art Space at the Cowichan Valley Arts Council location at the Island Savings Centre.

The show is open Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cannon has just moved to Duncan after working in Saskatchewan as a corrections worker where a random assault forever changed her life and career outlook.

As a way to deal with anger, stress and depression, she started painting as a way to cope.

“Painting proved to be therapeutic; a positive way to express my emotions,” she said. “I am grateful to be given this chance to do something wonderful. I hope that people find as much joy owning one of my paintings as I did creating it.”
