Man arrested on Canada-wide warrant

A 37-year-old man wanted for failing to return to his halfway house in Vancouver was arrested in the Resort Drive area in Parksville at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Marcel Parent has served time for offences including sexual assault with a weapon, armed robbery, threatening and forcible confinement.

Police said Parent breached his release conditions when he didn't show up at the halfway house by curfew on Sunday. A Canada-wide warrant was issued. Oceanside RCMP turned Parent over to the B.C. Sheriff Service, who took him to a detention facility on the Lower Mainland.
