Shawna Caspi headlines the Cowichan Folk Guild Coffee House in Duncan on Saturday, April 13.

The folk-roots singer-songwriter is based in Toronto and will be touring Vancouver Island in April.

Caspi is on the road supporting her latest album Hurricane Coming, which was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award. She will also be selling original landscape paintings alongside her merchandise.

“Audiences will feel comforted in the welcoming space that Shawna creates, and be engaged in songs that resonate with stories that are relatable, but told in new and unexpected ways, with lyrics that are poetic and meaningful, wrapped around intricate fingerstyle guitar accompaniment,” said a press release for the event. “This is music that makes an authentic human connection, that conveys a sense of closeness, of being understood, of feeling less alone.”

The coffee house takes place at the Duncan United Church Hall. Doors open at 7 p.m., with an open stage at 7:30 p.m. and Caspi starting at 8:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 for Folk Guild members and $10 for non-members.

Caspi will also make a stop in Cobble Hill at Babe in the Woods Farm on April 16.

This will be a house concert with limited seating. Attendees are asked to bring a folding chair, or to contact the hosts in advance to reserve a chair.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15. You will be sent the exact address after ticket purchase.

You can get them on Caspi’s website: www.shawnacaspi.com.
