Police are investigating after a cat was shot with a pellet gun and left for dead south of Chemainus last week.
The cat's owner found the animal on her deck, lethargic and dehydrated, on the morning of June 3. A trip to the veterinarian determined that the cat had been shot with a pellet gun — possibly a high-powered model. The pellet can not be removed and the cat continues to suffer.
“Who does this sort of thing, and why?” North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Krista Hobday asked. “We are hoping to find out the answer to both questions, and are asking the public to assist us in identifying those responsible for this inexcusable act of animal cruelty.”
The cat was shot sometime between 9 p.m. on June 2 and 9 a.m. on June 3. Police do not know if the shooter was on the property or on the roadway in the area of the 9000 block of Chemainus Road.
