The Municipality of North Cowichan has issued a boil-water notification until further notice for the community of Chemainus as a precautionary measure.

The boil-water notification, which has been issued in consultation with Island Health, is required due to turbidity in the water which poses a risk to public health.

Chemainus water users are being told to boil their water for at least one minute before using it for domestic purposes, which include drinking, cooking and brushing teeth.

It is considered safe to continue to wash clothes and bathe in this water.

The municipality will keep system users and the media advised of any changes to this notification as they occur.
