The Cowichan Valley Regional District is inviting local residents to share stories of their favorite places using the online tool PlaceSpeak.

This initiative is part of a summer-long activity at the CVRD that invites people to map their “Places of the Heart.”

By signing on to the PlaceSpeak website, residents can weigh in on the places that are meaningful to them in Cowichan, and take part in a dialogue about community.

In support of this initiative, representatives from the CVRD will be attending community events throughout the summer to spark conversation around Places of the Heart.

“During some of our initial visits, people who are new to the region have opened up to us and told us how warm and welcoming the Cowichan has been,” says Economic Development Cowichan manager Amy Melmock.

“Long-term residents have also shared there are special historic, cultural and recreational places throughout the Valley they treasure.”

The feedback received from residents helps various CVRD departments showcase the defining features of the Cowichan. CVRD staff will continue engaging with residents at community events and online through PlaceSpeak about “Places of the Heart” until the end of August.

The community is invited to post a picture, comment or video of favourite Cowichan place(s) at www.placespeak.com/placesoftheheart.

Visit the events page on PlaceSpeak to find upcoming community events the Places of the Heart team will be attending.

This fall, the Places of the Heart initiative will evolve to include a speaker series and a student design competition aimed at heightening the role of innovative community planning.
