There are no plans for the Duncan Sports Traders store on Trunk Road, which has been in operation for 21 years, to shut down anytime soon.

Owner Richard Ellis said there has been some confusion over the last three months over the closure of the Sports Traders location in Victoria, with many customers assuming that the Duncan store is closing as well.

He said all the Sports Traders stores are independently owned and operated, and the closure of the Victoria location will have no bearing on the Duncan location.

“It’s been an accelerating problem during the last three months as the Victoria store prepares to close,” Ellis said.

“I think it’s the longest closure of a store that I’ve seen in my life, and we seem to be caught in the backwash. I want to assure our customers that we’re still in operation with no plans to close.”

AhZenya health spa opens doors at new Duncan location

The AhZenya health spa has re-opened in its new location at 105-80 Craig St., next to Shades.

Owner Diane Schwagley said the spa had outgrown its former location, where it was in operation for the past four and a half years, and needed a larger space.

The spa and its three staff members, including Schwagley, offer a complete range of spa services, including manicures, pedicures, massages, and brow and eyelash tinting,

Schwagley, who has more than 20 years of experience in the esthetics field, said she has a passion for helping others look and feel their very best.

“We’re just getting started here and we plan to hold a grand opening sometime in September,” she said.

Scafes enjoying working in Cowichan at insurance office

Richard Scafe said the recent opening of the Duncan office of Hendry Swinton McKenzie Insurance was one of the best decisions in both his professional and family lives.

Scafe and his wife Kim, who are both from the Cowichan Valley, had almost 30 years between them in the insurance industry when the couple was approached by Brad Hendry to open up a branch of the insurance firm in the Valley.

Hendry is one of the partners in Hendry Swinton McKenzie Insurance, which has two offices in the Victoria area.

“The company has a good reputation in the insurance business, and we wanted to be part of that,” Scafe said.

“Kim and I also have three young kids, so setting up an office here where we grew up is a nice fit for us.”
