Hikers get a lucky break from helicopter when trek goes awry

A Victoria Day outing by two sisters on the Ripple Rock Trail turned into a search and rescue effort after the sisters left the trail and found themselves lost on the shoreline.

Thanks to the assistance of an RCMP helicopter that happened to be working in the area, local search and rescue volunteers were able to quickly locate the women.

"They very wisely called for help on their cell phone sooner rather than later, so rescuers were able to mobilize while there was plenty of daylight," SAR spokesperson Tim Fairbank said.
