Lake Cowichan town council briefs

Start of long-awaited Greendale Road watermain upgrade is only months away.

Lake Cowichan should have new lamppost banners up soon, town councillors learned last week.

They’ve been talking about the need to get them up before the tourists arrive, and were assured at the public works committee meeting June 6 that they’re expected. Canada 150 banners and a flag are also expected soon.

Water main upgrades complete

Water main uprades on Wilson and Park roads are finally completed. Paving was scheduled to be done at the end of last week. There are no updates yet on water main upgrading under the Ohtaki footbridge and the Greendale Trestle.

Greendale upgrade coming soon

Greendale Road residents have good news. The design for that long-awaited water service upgrade is 95 per cent completed, and construction is scheduled to begin in July, according to Lake Cowichan’s CAO Joe Fernandez.

“The situation around traffic and tubers has still to be addressed yet,” he said, referring to the congestion around Greendale Road’s Little Beach — a major landing spot for the many people who like to ride inner tubes down the Cowichan River in summer.

“However, I hope the Greendale residents will be happy to have it done.”
