Christopher Chesnic, 30, of Nanaimo was arrested shortly after a man broke into a occupied home in the Cowichan Valley early in the evening on April 11.

A man is reported to have forced his way into the family residence with a firearm with the resident inside the home at the time.

He was able to steal an undisclosed amount of money as he left the residence.

Thanks to the quick action of both North Cowichan/Duncan and Nanaimo RCMP, two men were taken into police custody. Chesnic has subsequently been charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling house, theft, and numerous other firearms offences.

The second man was released without charges.

In a statement, the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said the residence was targeted and the community, at large, is not at risk.
