Needles found at Evans Park T-ball field

Players and parents were warned by the Duncan Junior Baseball Association this week that needles have been found at Evans Park on Somenos Road.

In a post on Facebook, called “a note of caution and a request for assistance,” DJBA vice-president of baseball Tina Baker wrote late on Tuesday, “Tonight there were more needles found on field 7. We have found them all over the park. Please do a walk around before we let kids out on the fields for practice or games.

“I know this adds more to your plate but the alternative is just so scary. North Cowichan workers have been doing daily sweeps as well but more eyes saves lives. Thank you for your help to keep the kids safe.”

She also pointed out that, “As learned in coaching clinics one of the coach’s pre-play responsibilities is to check the field for hazards of ANY kind. Our awesome coaches would appreciate parent volunteers assisting with this task.

“NO DJBA player is of appropriate age to take part in this process. The safety of our players is a priority but we need our entire DJBA family to be diligent. Please remind children to find an adult if they see a needle and they are NOT to touch,” Baker wrote.
