Dave Devana, North Cowichan’s CAO for the last seven years, is leaving the municipality.

Mayor Jon Lefebure said the decision was made by “mutual agreement” between Devana and North Cowichan and is effective immediately.

Lefebure gave no reason for Devana’s departure, stating he was limited as to what he could say as it's a personnel matter which couldn’t be discussed in public.

Devana was not available for comment.

“Mr. Devana did a lot of great work and accomplished a lot in his time as CAO of North Cowichan,” Lefebure said.

“But both Mr. Devana and North Cowichan have come to a mutual agreement that the time has come for him to move on.”

Lefebure said Mark Ruttan, North Cowichan’s director of corporate affairs, is also the municipality’s deputy CAO and he will step in as acting CAO until Devana’s position is filled.

Lefebure said details of Devana’s severance package are also confidential as it's a personnel matter.
