The Municipality of North Cowichan has downgraded its water conservation measures to stage 1 for all of its water systems — but only for a couple of weeks.

“The provincial government has reduced the drought code for the region from level 3 to level 2,” explained a notice from municipal staff. The move enables North Cowichan to also relax its restrictions.

Stage 1 water conservation measures are in effect annually between May 1 and Oct. 31 unless otherwise specified, meaning the stage 1 limitations will be over in two weeks as per North Cowichans Waterworks Bylaw.

Water restrictions are meant to limit the extra use of water during the dry season.

After the weekend’s rain, it’s clear that season is officially over.

Visit North Cowichan’s water conservation page for more information.
