Town welcome sign needs landscaping and lighting

It’s too muddy for gardening yet but hopes are high for lighting and landscaping at the welcome sign.

The big job is done: the Lake Cowichan welcome sign has been erected.

Now, the next question from town councillors is: what’s happening with lighting and landscaping the site.

Town works superintendent Nagi Rizk told the public works committee last month that he’s been working on it but there’s still lots to be considered.

“I have spoken briefly to the gardeners and to the contractor but we have not received the final quote yet and we have not seen the design,” he said.

Rizk said there has been talk about putting lights behind the lettering but no decision has been made.

As for the landscaping, “It’s still too muddy out there, and we need more topsoil,” he said. “I know the tourist season is coming but we have to work as we can.”
