Tribes’ water sports celebration hits 125

Lots of activities offer family fun at the 125th annual Cowichan Water Sports Celebration June 17-21.

Starting Wednesday, June 17 with the Baby Olympics in the Siem Lelum gym starting at 2 p.m., the fun continues Thursday and Friday with soccer in the nearby fields. Games start at 4 p.m. June 18 and 9 a.m. June 19.

There will also be children’s activities in the gym June 18 starting at 9 a.m. and Prince Princess Pageant for 12-19 year olds there Thursday evening, hosted by Embracing Life, starting at 5 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help with a planned Family Fun Day Friday, June 19 starting at 10 a.m. in the Siem Lelum field.

In addition to all this land activity, of course the water sports at Cowichan Bay June 19, 20 and 21 will feature youth races, singles, doubles, six and 11-man races and old-timer races.

For extra excitement, there’s the Bone Game Sla-hal Saturday and Sunday at the Siem Lelum field. Registration is 2 p.m. June 20 with and entry fee of $100 for each five person team. Start times are 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday with prizes presented at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
