A Tzouhalem Road house that caught fire late on Friday night was a “total loss,” in the words of North Cowichan South End fire chief Scott Henning, but no one was injured in the blaze.

“The homeowner was home, but was able to get out,” the chief confirmed.

Firefighters were called to the scene in the 2200 block of Tzouhalem Road, near Brier Avenue, around 11:30 p.m.

“Our first guy arrived to find the house filling with smoke,” Henning said.

About 24 firefighters responded to the incident, and were on scene about four hours. The cause has not yet been determined.
