It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Al McMaster. He was predeceased by his mother (Catherine), father (David), and brother (George). Al was a husband, father, grandpa, uncle and friend. He is survived by wife of 64 years Marjorie. His 5 children; Candy (Finn), Leah, Melanie (Kevin), David, Jocelyn (Vic), 10 granddaughters, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was born in Peace River, Alberta in 1927 on the family homestead. He then moved to Victoria in 1951 where he met Marjorie and got married, and joined the Navy. After his tour was finished they moved to Edson, Alberta. In March, 1956 they became the 10th family to move into Sherwood Park, Alberta. As a heavy duty mechanic he went to the Dew line for Federal Electric Corporation in 1959 to 1964. Then opened Sherwood Park Equipment and Rentals. He was a volunteer firefighter for a short time in Sherwood Park. Then opened Ansel Installations until 1976 when they moved to Shawnigan Lake, BC. He worked for BCFP then started Al’s Trenching in South Cowichan Valley until he retired. He was President of the South Cowichan Chamber of Commerce. A life member of SCHFIAS - Farmers Institute, and a past member of Branch #134 Malahat Legion. Al was an active member of the Cowichan Valley for many years and will be greatly missed. We would like to thank Dr. Bass and Trieanna for making things easier for us and the kindness of the staff at Sunridge. There will be a tea on August 10 at 2 pm at the Cobble Hill Hall. Donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
