The Lord called Andy home August 31st, 2017 with his family by his side.

Andy was born in Oosterwierum, Friesland on April 20th, 1936, where he lived until the age of 16 before immigrating to the “land of opportunities”. He settled in Chemainus where he met his wife Wilhelmina Wiersma (de Wit) through her brother Gerry going to Youth For Christ meetings. They were married June 8th, 1960, and spent 57 years collecting memories.

Andy turned his passion for cars into a career, and spent about 50 years working on cars and selling VW’s. One of his favourite past times was frequenting garage sales in search of a bargain. He was always tinkering away with something, helping out his church, family or community.

He spent his post retirement years in various volunteer positions throughout the valley including ringing kettles for The Salvation Army, The Mission Thrift Store, Calvary Baptist Church and most notably the Cowichan Harmonica Band, where he played in care homes every week.

Andy is survived by his loving wife and best friend Willy. His three sons who he was so proud of, Bill & Carina, Art & Brenda and Mike & Wendy. His 16 grandchildren, aka the Wafia and 10 great grandchildren who brought him so much joy.

Andy’s unwavering faith in the Lord’s plan gave him solace throughout his short but courageous battle with cancer. His gentle presence and captivating stories will be remembered fondly by many.

The service will be held at the Duncan Christian Reformed Church, Friday September 8th, 2017 at 2pm, with fellowship to follow.

Matthew 11: 28 Then Jesus said “Come to me, all who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest”

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Duncan Christian School.

Until we meet again.
