Charles Fox

July 16, 2016

Lost a good one today! Charlie Fox who lived in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island died today, July 16th, at the age of 81. Born in Regina, a first marriage to Donna Milne gave him three sons, ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild. An ordained Lutheran Minister, music and social justice defined his career. With the church he served in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In the 70s, he worked in probation in BC. In the 80s he headed the Native Ministries in Regina and Saskatoon, and later worked as a financial planner in Kelowna. Charlie developed an original style of music, telling the stories of validation such as his signature song “Red Willow”. After a second marriage to Verna Conway (now deceased), they retired to Vancouver Island. At Hope Lutheran Church Nanaimo he hosted a coffeehouse for the local folk music scene, rode a bicycle across Canada for mental health awareness, and participated in the work of KAIROS. His songs remain powerful calls for justice and peace. Thank you Charlie for your songs, your passion, your commitment and your friendship.
