With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dad (Opa), at home with family close by. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Hannelore; brother Lothar (Marion). He will be greatly missed and always remembered by his children Petra (Tom), Annamarie (Gabe), Gidge (Briane), Beverly (Collin), Brian (Patti), Carol (Greg) and Randy; grandchildren Chris, Richard, Angelique, Charlie, Pamela, Bill, Becky, Peter, Bonnie, Shannon, Victoria, Shawn, Shane, Adam, Jennifer, Stephanie, Daniel, Craig, Kyle, Ryan, Nicole, Nathan; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, too many to name.

Born in Hamburg, Germany, where he grew up, and finished his apprenticeship for plumbing. After the war he returned home, met the love of his life, Lore and was married in August, 1947. They immigrated with their two oldest daughters to Canada in 1952 and settled in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Dad worked at the Algoma Steel Plant for 14 years. He loved Canada and felt that as long as they had each other and their health there was nothing they couldn’t do. Tiring of the long cold winters, the family moved to Vancouver Island in 1967. Dad always provided for his family by doing various jobs. He could build and fix anything; jack of all trades: electrical, plumbing, construction, mechanical. He built every home we ever lived in.

Dad was known for his great laugh and his warm welcome. He loved and was very proud of each of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.

The family wish to thank the wonderful care aids and nursing staff and Cowichan Home Support and special thanks to Dr. Glen Robinson. Without their help we could not have been able to care for Dad in his own home, until his passing.

There will be no service at Dad’s request.

Until we meet again, you are always in our hearts.
