In Loving Memory of… Irene Myra Brown

January 12, 1921 – August 11, 2016

Irene passed away at age 95 with family by her side. Born in Bromham, England and living on a farm with 3 brothers, she soon found out how to stand up for herself and I’m sure this contributed to the feisty lady that we all knew and loved. When war broke out she joined the WAAF, where she met and married her husband Iain. During their 50+ years together they were very involved in curling, sailing and golfing and Irene served a term as Captain of the North Berwick Ladies Golf Club. She was a keen athlete and later, Chairperson of Edinburgh Southern Harrier’s Athletic Club. Irene & Iain travelled from Scotland to Canada many times, specifically B.C. & Ontario (where her brother Roy lived). Trips to New Zealand, Australia, Seattle to Los Angeles, Arizona, the Grand Canyon, Florida and Hawaii. After Iain passed away in 1994, this adventurous lady emigrated to Canada at age 82 to live with her son & his family. An avid Bridge player to the end, she enjoyed her weekly meetings with the Valley Seniors ‘Bridge Group’. She leaves behind in Duncan, BC her son Rob & his wife Charlotte, her grandchildren Robin and Carmen. In Scotland her daughter Sandra Forrest & husband Mike, her grandson Ruari. In Hong Kong her grandson Murray Forrest & wife Julia and her great grandchildren Erinn & Phelan. In Yorkshire her brother Vic Paget & wife Sheila & their family, in Wiltshire sister- in- law Betty Paget (Gus) & family. In Ontario sister- in- law Joan Paget (Roy) & family, in Calgary cousins Joan Wilson (Dave) & family and Bill & Betty Davis & family. Many thanks to Dr. Rimmer and the caring staff at CDH. A special thank you to the Handy Dart staff. She loved a good party and with this in mind we would like to invite all her friends to a “Celebration of Life” to be held on Saturday, Aug 27th at 1:00pm, at 1038 Herd Road, Duncan, BC, V9L 5W9, 250-746- 9550.
