Jean Elizabeth Jackson

April 22, 1932 - October 17, 2017

Our Mom slipped away peacefully in the wee hours of October 17. Born Jean Elizabeth Stenhouse in Watrous, Saskatchewan, she was the 2nd of 4 girls. Her mother passed away when she was just 4 years old.

Our Mom chose teaching as a career. While teaching in a one room school house in Glenbush, Saskatchewan, she fell in love with the school principal, Harold Peter Dube. They were married in June 1954 and settled in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Both changed careers becoming dedicated business owners operating various ventures including the Red and White Harphill Grocery Store on 10th Street. Jean and Harry had four children - Gayle, Catherine, Gregory and David. Tragically, Harry was killed when struck by a motor vehicle January of 1968, leaving Mom to fend as a single parent and sole owner/operator of the family businesses.

Mom remarried George Melrose Jackson, who had two sons. Together Jean and George began new business adventures that took them and the family to Kamloops (4 Seasons Motel) and then to Cowichan Bay.

They owned and operated the Station Street Gallery and Frame Shop in Duncan, an endeavour that would become far more than just an occupation for Mom. She loved her work and the Cowichan Valley where she pursued her love of golf, volunteered with IODE, was active in several bridge groups, and lived a very social lifestyle.

Sadly in 1983, Mom lost her second husband to heart disease. She carried on with the Station Street Gallery until her retirement in 1999. She continued her social life in the Cowichan Valley with her friends and family.

Despite her many setbacks in life, Mom was always thoughtful, gracious, supportive and positive. She was an excellent guide and confidante to her children and was a true matriarch.

Our family mourns her passing and will always recognize and be grateful for the gifts she has given us.

Mom is survived by all her children and one sister Moira Davidson (of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). She leaves a rich legacy in her grandchildren, Tara, Jackson, Ashley, Josh, Morgan and Taylor and great-grandchildren Seraph, Miriam, Agnes and Beatrix.

Sadly, Mom was predeceased by her grandson Allen in 2000 and her step son, Robert in 2010.

We wish to thank the management and staff of Chemainus Health Centre for their excellent care for Mom.

A private family gathering will be held as per Mom's request.
