July 05, 1925 – May 15, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father in Cowichan District Hospital after an extended stay. Dad is survived by his children Joyce (Jim), Diane, Marvin (Barb), Patsy, and Marilyn (Jerry). He is also survived by his grandchildren Wayne (Maria), Roxanne, Raquel (John), Brad, Bridget (Brian), Jackie, Tauri, Michael (Erin) and Stefan (Jackie) and his great grandchildren Nicholas, Larz, Landon, Shannon, Anthony, Tauri, Adeline and Emmett. He also leaves to mourn him his twin sister Elma, sisters Eileen, Leora, Doris (Mike), and Diane (Vic), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Eleanor, son Robert and granddaughter Rachel, as well as brother Herb, sister Erna brothers in law Eno, William, Jake, Norman, Aimé and Elton and sister in law Therese.

Dad was born and raised in Morden, Manitoba and grew up in Winkler and Kleefeld. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces before he and mom moved their young family to Lake Cowichan in 1955 where dad worked at the Youbou Sawmill until his early retirement.

Dad and Mom enjoyed travelling and had the opportunity to go to Europe twice during their son Marvin’s service in the Armed Forces. They also travelled across Canada and through the United States and into Mexico. Unfortunately their travels ended with mom’s Alzheimer’s disease. Dad never regretted for a minute retiring early as it allowed our parents to enjoy themselves.

Dad moved to Duncan in 2005 to be close to mom as he visited her daily. One of the most treasured memories we have of those days is our dad holding mom’s hand during every visit. Dad and mom had a love that was to be envied, and to the day of dad’s passing he spoke of their wonderful years together.

We would like to thank Dr. Reimer and staff for their attentive health care, the staff and friends at Duncan Manor and most importantly our cousin Shirley and her husband Bill who were always ready to be there when we asked. Shirley and Bill were with dad when he passed and the family are grateful he had loved ones by his side. We would also like to thank the staff of Cowichan District Hospital for their caring support of Dad during his stay.

Funeral service, followed by tea, to be held at Sand’s Funeral Chapel,

187 Trunk Road, Duncan on May 26, 2017 at 11 a.m.
