Predeceased by wife Marie and son David. Survived by wife Sandra, sister Eileen, daughters Phyllis (Bob), Ann (John), Barb (Reg), daughter-in-law Liz, sons Wayne (Deb), and Grant (Teresa), 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Ken was born in New Westminster in 1925 and grew up on the family farm in Cloverdale. He was the second youngest of 13 children. In 1943, at the age of 17 ½, he joined the RCAF as an officer and was stationed in England where he flew many missions during the war as a tail gunner. He returned to Cloverdale where he met and married Marie in 1949 and started a family in 1951.

The family moved to Port Alberni to work in construction and finally settled in the Cowichan Valley in 1956. Ken started Pacific Builders’ Supplies in 1959 in Cobble Hill, which grew to include Pacific Truss and Pacific Homes and is currently being run by the next generation.

In retirement Ken remained active by volunteering with Providence Farm, gardening, and travelling. After the death of Marie, he remarried in 2004 to Sandra and spent part of the year in Canada and part of the year in Australia. When in Australia, he would get up every morning at 5am and walk 10km along the beach. He did this right up until last year. In Cobble Hill, he maintained a large garden and vineyard. Last year he removed most of the vineyard to plant 1000 lavender plants, as the vineyard was just too much work at 91.

He will be remembered for his long involvement in community service, charity and commitment to Queen of Angels School and Saint Edwards Church. There will be a Funeral Service at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 2085 Maple Bay Road in Duncan at 1:30pm on Thursday, June 15.

The family would like to thank Dr. Moulaison, Dr. Masuda, and the staff at the Chemainus Hospice for their compassion and understanding. In lieu of flowers please donate to Canadian Cancer Society.
