It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mavis. Mavis was born in Wales.

She met her husband (Peter) in the post W.W.II years in England. In 1957, they immigrated to Canada with two daughters and settled in Calgary. Later, they moved to Revelstoke and then to Vancouver Island. Along the way they added three sons to their growing family.

Mavis was a talented, creative person. She became an amateur geologist going on many rockhound trips with family. She learnt how to do lapidary work and created rock jewelry. Later, she and Peter bought acreage in Westholme and she was able to raise sheep, and learned to spin her own wool and weave. She wove a lot of clothing and household items.

As time went by, Mavis and Peter bought a lot in Chemainus and built a home. One of her greatest joys were the winter trips to Baja, Mexico. She was at her height of joy in the warmth and sun on the beaches.

In her later years, Mavis lived her life as she wanted, determined to be as independant as she could and deal with life’s issues as they happened. She died as she wished in her own home, surrounded by family.

Mavis is predeceased by her husband Peter. She is survived by her five children; nine grand children and one great grand child. Mavis’s family wish to thank everyone who befriended her and helped her over the years. At Mavis’ request, there will be no service.
