With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Shelling. Mike passed away at home on May 18th at the age of 69. Mike loved his family deeply, and was a cherished and valued friend whose many kindnesses were outshone only by his uniquely incredible dry wit! A longshoreman for over 40 years, Mike (known as “Cowboy” on the waterfront) so enjoyed his job and the camaraderie of his many coworkers. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved nature and animals, and relished fishing and hunting. He also loved the fact that he got to keep his hair as he aged and that he had strong arms from a life of hard work, and often reminded his kids they were lucky their Dad was so good-looking! He was a good, honest, caring man, who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A get-together in honour of Mike will be held at the Chemainus Royal Canadian Legion Branch 191 from 3 - 5PM on Wednesday, June 15. Please bring your smiles, photos, and funniest “Mike” stories!
