A long-time resident of Duncan, died Wednesday, June 7th.

Born in 1936 in Preston England, and trained as an RN and midwife, Monica immigrated to the United States in 1968. She enjoyed several careers during her lifetime, including a successful period as a test kitchen chef and food stylist in Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Vancouver Island in 1986, where she ran a home-based bed & breakfast in Victoria, before moving to Duncan to retire and write. Monica was an avid gardener and a writer of fiction. She published a small book of stories, called Hotchpotch, which is available through the local libraries.

Known for her quick wit, loving and generous nature, and love of entertaining, Monica was adored by many. She was an avid cook, reader of crime thrillers, and supporter of the arts. She was also active in her local Probus Club and her church.

Monica is survived by her four sons: Sean, Ciaran, Declan, and Brendan, who all live in Chicago.

A Celebration of Life ceremony was held at 11AM on Tuesday, June 13th, at the Church of the Nazarene, 3036 Sherman Road, Duncan BC.
