Norma Black

April 5, 2017

Norma Lee Black, aged 64, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2017 at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC after a long hard fight battling a multitude of health issues. Norma was born in Duncan, BC on October 2, 1952 to Norman & Wilda Gravelle.

Norma thoroughly enjoyed her family and Vancouver Island and the small town of Lake Cowichan where she grew up with her 4 siblings, Robert, Nancy, Richard and Norman.

In 1972, Norma married Ross Black and they soon had two kids. First born, Clint Black 1972, and Tania Black 1974. Norma loved watching, cheering and score keeping at their sporting events. Norma later entered the work force and enjoyed many different part time jobs in the Duncan area and eventually returned to school and graduated from Sprott Shaw Community College with a diploma in Office Administration. She last worked at LaFarge Canada in Calgary, Alberta where she lived from July, 2005 until August, 2014. Her grandchildren Brenna and Brody Black were the light of her life and she loved nothing more than being a Grandama. Norma then returned to the West Coast and resided in Pitt Meadows, BC with her daughter Tania.

In addition to raising her children, Norma enjoyed curling and walking and her passion was baking and cooking. Norma enjoyed volunteering her time to be “Team Mom” to her kids sports teams or to bake cookies and treats for bake sales or her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her friends up & down the island and most especially her weekend getaways with her dearest friends in Parksville, BC. She enjoyed pretty scenery and loved being near the ocean.

Norma is survived by her son Clint (wife Robbi Ann, and grandkids Brenna and Brody) Black, daughter Tania Black, her brother Robert (Bertha) Gravelle, sister Nancy (Ken) Caldwell, brother Richard (Vicki) Gravelle, brother Norman Gravelle; and all her nieces and nephews and many other relatives.
