In Loving Memory of
Page Harrison Porter
1927-2017
age Harrison Porter, aged
89, died on Good Friday (14
April) 2017), following a brief
illness, in Duncan, B.C. Her
spirit goes to join her mind,
her body: to science.
Born in New York City, on 24
July 1927, she was raised in
North Carolina. She met her
future husband in Chicago.
After first sweeping her off to
his native England, they settled in Canada.
Following careers as a waitress, chemist, private
school administrator, book editor, mother,
homemaker, high school chemistry teacher and
church administrator, she took up Yoga. For some
45 years, well into her 80’s, she taught Yoga in
Montreal. Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Swaziland and,
since 1991, Duncan.
Husband John, of nearly 65 years, son
Christopher (Rosalinda), grandchildren Anthony
(Erin) and Rebecca (Mike) will all miss her energy,
her enthusiasm, her “grasshopper” mind and her
big grin.
In the last 15 years, she fought back the rising tide
of dementia with research, exercise, engagement,
study, Yoga, lists, activity and sheer will power.
Only in the past three years did the tide become
unstoppable, sweeping away a lifetime of chemistry,
literature, botany, poetry, history, reading, writing,
music, biology, politics, gardening, cooking,
knitting, travel, Yoga, Buddhism and six languages.
Thank you to everyone who helped Page in her final
years and especially to the team at Sunridge who
looked after her over the past year.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light”
