It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Robert Maurice Rutledge.  Bob passed away peacefully on July 6, 2017 with his family by his side in the comfort of his home in Maple Bay, BC.

Robert (Bob) was born January 29, 1935 at St. Paul’s Hospital to Edward and Evelyn of Vancouver, BC. As he grew, and graduated vocational school, he quickly displayed his mechanical aptitude through many projects, vehicles he owned, or boats he built.

On May 31, 1968 Bob married the love of his life and wife of more than 49 years, Diane Bourdages.  They settled in Richmond and had 2 sons: Jamie (Christine & children William and Laura), and Dale (Richelle & children Alicia and Keira). In 1990, Bob transferred to Campbell River with AJ Forsyth Steel, who he retired with after 34 years.

Bob had a passion for the ocean that he shared with his family, as they spent many holidays and summers cruising the waters of the BC coastline. He proudly served as Commodore for the Richmond Yacht Club and held several positions on the executive for BC Council of Yachts, throughout the years. After retirement, he would turn his attention back to the old cars he grew up with as he restored a 1964 Thunderbird.  He had many great adventures with Diane attending car shows throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Bob leaves behind his sister Delores Wood of Cranbrook, BC, as well as, many nieces, nephews and countless friends. He will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved him and the many lives he impacted along the way. Strong to the end, Dad would not let go until his family was by his side. He will always be remembered for his love of family, strong work ethic and his sharp wit and great sense of humour.

The family would like to thank Dr. Reimer, the Doctors and Staff at the BC Cancer Agency as well as the team of Nurses and Home Support workers of the Cowichan Valley, who made his passing easier.

As per Bob’s wishes, there will be no formal Service.  In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the BC Cancer Agency, or a charity of your choosing.
