Sam Jack Sr passed away peacefully, surrounded family, July 9, 2016 at his own residence.  He was 81 years old, and would have been 82 years old in two weeks’ time.

Born on July 27, 1934 to Late Lester Jack & Philomena Jack (nee: Peter).  Sam was predeceased by his late siblings Martin Jack, Maryann Jack, and Edna Wilbur (nee: Jack), his wife Eliza Jack (nee: Wilson), his son Lester Myron Jack, his granddaughter Elizabeth Jack and his great-grandsons: Larry George & Dean Jones.

Survived by his children: Maryann Harris (nee: Jack) (spouse Michael), James Jack, Sam Jack Jr (spouse Veronica), Wilson Jack, Polly Jack (spouse Earl), Myra George (nee: Jack) (spouse Bernie), Sampson Jack, Donna Jack, Elaine Jack (spouse TJ), Wally Jack (spouse Monica) and Kevin Jack Sr (spouse Sarah). He has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and extended family members.

Sam went to several Indian Residential schools: Kuper Island, Kamloops, Missions and Coqualeetza.

Sam worked several jobs: Forestry, custodian for SD79, Firefighting, Orchard Worker, and Migrant farm worker. Sam enjoyed playing Sla-Hal (Bonegame), watching his older sons canoe pull and bringing his younger children to pow wow. He participated & supported winter ceremony events. Sam supported communities up and down island when needed. He loved visiting his relatives, and enjoyed making friends with the employees at Doghouse and Lee’s Chicken restaurants. Sam went to church three times a week at St. Ann’s church and prayed for his family and his friends.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the thoughtful care that Sam received from Doctor Mark Saunders, the Cowichan District Hospital employees, the Royal Jubilee Hospital employees, especially in his final days with the nurses coming to the house to help his daughter Myra with him.  They all were so good and kind to him.

A Celebration of Life was held at Somena Big house kitchen on July 12, 2016 and Funeral July 13, 2016. Catholic Service by St. Ann’s church diocese.
