June 14, 1930 - May 6, 2017

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Shirley. Predeceased by husband, John, and sister June. Shirley leaves behind her brother Merv Bamber (Gloria) in Edmonton, her 3 children Dave, Rick, and Lori Quaife (Gary), 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was born and raised in Edmonton, AB and worked at the Hudson’s Bay for many years. She and John moved to Vancouver Island to be closer to their children in 1986. Shirley was not only a mother and grandmother to her family, but also a very close friend. She was best known for cheering her grandkids at sporting events, loved a good road trip and never passed up a volunteering opportunity. She had made candy bags for tournaments and was often referred to as the “candy lady” at hockey, softball and lacrosse games. She also helped kids who were learning to read as well as would assist or drive for field trips. Shirley always made the most out of life. Even though she had lost 90% of her sight, she maintained her positive outlook and did not let her blindness stop her from doing what she loved. She had a wonderful sense of humour and was so proud of her family and everything they did. She will be missed dearly. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to your favoured charity. “Never. We never lose our loved ones. They accompany us; they don’t disappear from our lives. We are merely in different rooms.” - Paulo Coelho
