Wendy Elizabeth (Farris) Porteous died peacefully on March 25, 2017 in Duncan, BC, age 79, of cancer. Born June 20, 1937 in Vancouver BC, she lived in Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Duncan. She attended Crofton House School, the University of British Columbia, the Sorbonne in Paris, the Free University of Berlin, and McGill. In 1968, she married Timothy Porteous (divorced 1985). From 1968, Wendy worked for the Government of Canada in many areas of the civil service, achieving the rank of Assistant Deputy Minister before retiring to Duncan in 2000. Wendy was an active member of the Parish of Saint Bartholomew’s in Ottawa, and the Parish of St Peter’s, Quamichan, in Duncan. Survivors include daughter Vanessa Bell Porteous and partner Bruce Weir, grandson Alexander (“Sasha”) Lauchlan Porteous Weir (Calgary); sisters Gretchen Creery (Vancouver) and Jennifer Bernius (Ottawa); many beloved relatives, and a wide circle of friends. A Memorial Service will be held on May 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm, at St Peter Quamichan, 5800 Church Road, Duncan, BC. Donations to St Peter in lieu of flowers are appreciated.
