It is with great sadness that after a long and courageous battle with cancer, we announce the passing of Jim Guest. Jim was a loving father, caring brother, son, and loyal friend.

Predeceased by his parent’s Margaret Guest and James Guest. Jim is survived by his beloved daughters Gillian (Eric) and Emily Guest whom were the apple of his eye and his life’s most precious gifts. His sisters Judy Guest and Jayne Kukk (Don Bencina) and nieces Stephanie (Steve) Bulyousky, Katie (Darryl) Bates, great nieces and nephews Kayla, Taylor and Tristan. His dearest friends, whom are an extension of his family, Kerry and Kelly Maybin, Matthew and Brianna Dexter, Greyson and Tami Dexter, Dean Gammie, and many more close friends.

Originating from Guelph, Ontario, Jim spent much of his time outdoors with his family at their cottage in South Hampton. He often shared his many fond memories of time spent with his family. Though he migrated out west some 30 years ago, he never forgot his roots.

Jim loved the outdoors whether it be on land, sea, the great lakes or in the mountains. He held great love and respect for nature. These are values he encouraged and nurtured in his beautiful daughters Gillian and Emily.

Jim had a passion for working with his hands which led him to becoming a ticketed journeyman, through which, he built log homes and created beautiful buildings and furniture. Throughout his lifetime he spent countless hours honing his skills creating many fine hand-crafted pieces. Until his last days he could often be found tinkering around his work shop or offering advice to a fellow craftsman.

To know Jimmie was to love Jimmie. He was loved by all that had the pleasure to know him and he will be greatly missed.

The family would like to express many thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors at the Cowichan District Hospital for the kindness and respect that they showed Jim and his family during his last days, especially those on the third floor.

For those whose wish to pay their respects please join us on Saturday, July 8th from 1-4pm at The Brass Bell Pub in Crofton for snacks and refreshments for a celebration of Jim’s life.
