Alberta/Saskatchewan answer lies south

Re: “Do they teach geography in Alberta?”, (Citizen, Nov. 6)

The geographical issue for Alberta/Saskatchewan lies not to the east or west. Rather, in my opinion, the geographical orientation should be to the south.

It is there that an independent Alberta/Saskatchewan will find an extremely well developed infrastructural network (think railways, pipelines, and highways) over which their copious resources can reach west coast, Great Lakes, east coast, and Gulf of Mexico ports. Both Alberta and Saskatchewan have grain, livestock and oil. And Saskatchewan also adds potash, uranium and fresh water — all greatly desired by the USA.

Given the current deal-making occupant of the Oval Office, I suspect that it would take him no more than about five minutes to create a proposed arrangement providing whatever Alberta/Saskatchwan would want in the way of a suitable arrangement. Questions regarding citizenship and statehood would take somewhat longer. Think how long it took for Alaska and Hawaii.

My concern is that citizens of Canada residing in Beautiful B.C. would soon begin to feel somewhat isolated from the powers-that-be in Central/Eastern Canada.
