CVRD considers multi-unit campsites in residential neighborhoods

The CVRD is considering a request to allow multi-unit campsites on residential lots in the CVRD. The first rezoning request under a proposed new zone is at Cowichan Lake, in the Nantree-Peri Road residential neighborhood. Three RVs on each half-acre lot has been requested — directly adjacent to residential homes.

Why CVRD staff haven’t turfed this request is beyond me — but hopefully the CVRD board of directors will consider all the public opposition, opposition from the CVRD Area I – advisory planning commission, unanimous opposition and petitions from local residents, and turn down this crazy idea at their next meeting.

Because today it is Lake Cowichan, tomorrow it will be Mesachie Lake, Shawnigan Lake, then Cobble Hill, Cowichan Bay, and so on. We live in a beautiful part of the world — but camping must be restricted to campsites — not next door to where you or I live.

I encourage anyone that is concerned, to make sure that your CVRD director knows that multi-unit campsites in residential areas of the CVRD is a bad idea and must be opposed.
