Agree headline stigmatized homeless
I support E. Mitchell’s letter in the Nov. 17 paper, “Headline stigmatizes homeless” re: the article the week before. The original story, was on the front page, Nov. 10 “Homeless man charged with sexual interference after assault on 13-year-old in Duncan.”
The man’s behaviour was totally inappropriate and potentially traumatizing, but the fact that he is homeless should not be the lead-in; it just ramps up the negative feeling in the community. I spoke to staff at the Citizen, but ran out of time to follow with a letter last week; E. Mitchell’s letter confirmed that other people feel the same.
