Trucks not a problem on Mays Road

This letter is in response to the decision that North Cowichan council has made to designate Mays Road as a no heavy truck route based on the complaint of a relatively new resident to the area.

Our family has lived on Mays Road for 36 years and have never experienced the purported amount of heavy traffic or the necessity, while walking, biking or horseback riding, to jump into the bush because of it.

Of course there will be some heavier traffic to accommodate new builds occurring on the road, farming and municipal services. I drive the road frequently and never feel that I have to squeeze by another vehicle. We love the road just the way it is, rural, without sidewalks or speed bumps.

No trucking company is going to go out of their way on this winding road to avoid a weigh scale. It simply would not be practical. Perhaps North Cowichan council could have canvassed the rest of the residents of Mays Road before making this ill informed decision.
