N. Cowichan not exempt from cleaning air

Re: “N. Cowichan burning changes step backward”, (Citizen, July 28).

How right they are — why does N. Cowichan feel they are exempt from cleaning up the air, when all over the world countries are tackling this very issue?

It is very concerning they would even consider such a foolish move towards more burning: people are dying in spades around the globe due to air pollution.

With wood smoke at the top of the list in terms of toxins which cause all sorts of diseases: cancers, heart attacks, strokes, COPD, asthma — the list goes on.

How arrogant of those who are making this decision to think N. Cowichan can ignore the global effort to curtail air pollution by adding to the world’s air pollution.

The community of Cowichan is very close to being added to the world’s worst air quality list (WHO). If this is your goal I am sure by passing this bylaw you will succeed.

Do they think the world is not watching?
