New road safety features thought through?

I am not sure where the idea came from, it appears that there is a need to put flexible white posts or sticks along Renfrew Road starting at Masons Store and ending just past Shawnigan Lake School. I am very much a supporter of keeping walkers safe and especially school children walking home or to buses etc. It appears that the students on Linde Lane, Worthington Road and Sunny Glades did not need any safety sticks/posts. Also the primary school kids coming through the short cut from Discovery School and walking up or down Renfrew did not need them either. And it is also odd that the safety sticks/posts are only on one side of the road, and I thought we were always suppose to walk facing the traffic — guess one only needs sticks on one side. Strange?

I agree they may make the road safer, but they also will impact cyclists as it virtually renders the shoulder useless for cycling.

It will be interesting to see how those sticks/posts stand up during the winter when the plow comes along. Looks like since the plow cannot clean the shoulder due to the sticks/posts all the snow will have to be piled up on the shoulder, which means it is going to be more hazardous with all the snow piled up there vs. being cleared off.
