We are facing crisis of extinction

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s rubber-stamping of U.S. President Trump’s Keystone XL plans are unconscionable, in view of the reality of climate change.

Journalists and experts are using the term “extinction” in reference to the crisis facing our world. We have been watching the extinction of one animal species after another. Now it is the human species too that is at risk.

If we wake up very, very fast, changing our fossil fuels addiction (and the free market fundamentalism that feeds it), we have a slim chance of survival.

Perhaps, like many others, I once felt confused and unequal to the task of grasping the basic science behind this massive crisis. Naomi Klein’s book This Changes Everything has shaken me out of my complacency.

I urge everyone to find out the truth and send letters to the Prime Minister. The lives of our children and grandchildren are literally at stake!

P.S.: My appreciation goes to you and the Cowichan Valley Citizen for publishing David Suzuki’s columns.
