We need maximum protections for whistleblowers

Dear Cowichan MP Alistair MacGregor:

I must firmly applaud former Cambridge Analytica staffer Chris Wylie’s brave whistleblowing concerning alleged use of private Facebook data for diabolical political and economic gains.

It seems Wylie realized the error of his ways and revealed how use of innocent Facebook members’ data was allegedly highjacked to influence approval of Brexit in the U.K., and the election of American President Donald Trump.

Disgusting, frightening and alarming.

The world, including Facebook members, would never have known about this seeming betrayal if not for the bravery of native Canuck Wylie.

His peers include Edward Snowden and Julian Assange who also shed light for us on the dark, rat-infested world of secrecy at the expense of our privacy and freedom.

We need maximum legal protection internationally for whistleblowing folks such as these three — and many other unsung heroes — while demanding the end of media and press monopolies that may not print these crucial stories.

We also need jail terms for the guilty, plus confiscation of their companies following conviction.

Meanwhile, I urge all citizens to question internet and social-media sources — and to pull their Facebook profiles and accounts immediately.
