Bantam C Lions win gold at Juan de Fuca tourney

The Cowichan Valley bantam C1 Lions won the gold medal at the Juan de Fuca Rhino Labour Tournament at Westhills Arena in Langford over the Thanksgiving weekend earlier this month.

The Cowichan Valley bantam C1 Lions won the gold medal at the Juan de Fuca Rhino Labour Tournament at Westhills Arena in Langford over the Thanksgiving weekend earlier this month.

The Lions, who are sponsored by Maple Bay’s Lion Rampant Pub and Genfor Forestry, captured the title with a 4-2 win over South Delta C1 on Thanksgiving Monday. Jacob Stocks, Austin Edkins, Aiden Lawrence and Trekker James scored Cowichan’s goals, with two assists from Treavor Nixon and one from Adrian Marshall.

The Lions opened the tournament with two Saturday games, a 3-1 win over Juan de Fuca C2, and a 14-2 drubbing of Saanich C2.

Brayden Generous led the way against JDF with a goal and an assist. Dominic Adelborg and Gavin Foss also scored, and Austin Edkins added a helper.

Generous scored five times against Saanich C2, and set up another goal, while Adelborg had two goals and an assist. Lawrence and Stocks also found the net twice, Malaki McMahon had a goal and an assist, and Foss and James had singles. Adrian Marshall finished with three helpers, Garrett Burch had two and David Sullivan had one.

In their third game of the tournament, on Sunday, the Lions played to a 1-1 tie with JDF C1. Stocks scored the lone goal, assisted by Foss.

They booked their spot in the final with a 3-0 win over the Alberni Valley Aces thanks to the shutout goaltending of Liam Pelletier. Goals came from Ryan Kuhn, Foss and Dawson Bell, with assists by Austin Edkins and Adelborg.
