Five Cowichan Bulldogs midget football players helped Team BC to a come-from-behind win over Alberta at the ABC Border Bowl in Chilliwack on Dec. 8.

Dakota Cullum, Liam Hennig, Liam Simmonds, Nicholas Young and Jon Nantias played for Team BC in the annual interprovincial competition, while Nicholas’s brother, Justin helped coach the team.

Cullum and Nicholas Young will also be in action next month at the Vancouver Mainland Football League Star Bowl all-star Game. Fellow 2018 midget Bulldogs Dylan Taylor, Brooks Bianchi, Damian McCuaig-Jones, Matthew Pretula and Gavin Spencer will also take part, while the bantam game will include Cowichan players Jesse Kwasny, Finn Shea, Laine Hogstead, Gavin Kendrick, Gregor Mackenzie and Jayden Strzok.

For both the midget and bantam Star Bowl games, the VMFL has combined its 12-man and nine-man leagues, and they will play 12-man football. The Lower Mainland players will have a week of practice together, and Island players will join them for a day of practice on the same weekend as the Star Bowl games.

“They all represent themselves well when they go to these teams and camps,” 2018 midget Bulldogs head coach Mike Williams said. “The guys are doing well. By going to all these camps, there’s no bad reason to do it, it helps their visibility; they’re getting on someone’s radar.”
