Cowichan’s road win over Nanaimo in a First Division women’s rugby match last Saturday was more difficult to pull off than the 51-15 final score might suggest.

“If you look at the scoreboard, you would think this was an easy game for the visiting team, but Nanaimo put up a good fight,” Cowichan captain Sherry Spence insisted. “It just seemed to click for us, finally, and the game plan to get the ball wide out seemed to work, when you look at who scored.”

Carolyn Gudmundseth scored three tries, Rikki Wylie and Tyson Beukeboom had two each, and Jamie Russell added one. Michelle Moore made her first appearance with the team this season, and had a strong showing at scrum half, finishing with a try and a convert. Taylor also kicked two converts. Gudmundseth took Player of the Game honours in the backs, and Bristine Gibbons received the award in the forwards.

Cowichan will host Delta’s Brit Lions at Piggie Park this Saturday, kicking off at 11:15 a.m.
