Alexa Dow continues to make great strides.

The young Cowichan Valley runner won her second consecutive provincial title at the B.C. Cross Country Championships in Abbotsford late last month.

Alexa claimed gold in the 10-year-old girls race this year after taking the nine-year-old girls title in Nanaimo in 2016. She finished the 2km course in six minutes and 45 seconds, second overall out of 51 boys and girls runners, only two seconds back of the first-place boy, and 16 seconds ahead of the second-place girl.

Alexa also won the BC Athletics Lower Mainland Cross Country Series this fall, placing first in all five races that she attended, and being the first runner across the line — out of all girls and boys — in four of her races. This was the second straight year she has won the Lower Mainland series as well.

This past July, Alexa won gold medals in the 600m and 1000m races at the BC Athletics Track and Field provincials, breaking the age group record in the 1000m by 6.51 seconds after going undefeated in 600m and 1000m races during the season.
