Women’s football teams from throughout the Pacific Northwest will gather at McAdam Park this coming weekend for Sun Bowl XXXII.

Five teams from the Cowichan Women’s Football League — the Crew, Law, Storm, Wild and Blue Steel Brew will be joined for the festivities by eight squads from Vancouver and four from Victoria.

The Texas Adrenaline, who have travelled from the Lone Star State to win four Sun Bowl titles in recent years, aren’t part of the field this year, so it’s anyone’s game.

“The competition should be high, and with Texas not here it will be wide open for any of the top teams like the Crew, Shehawks, or Pink Panthers just to name a few,” Sun Bowl organizer Chris Mann said. “It really is wide open in every division. As this year has proven in our own league, on any given Sunday anything can happen.”

Games start on Saturday at 8 a.m. and run unto the evening, with playoffs starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Grounded and Almost Top Flight division finals start around 3 p.m., with the Top Flight championship game at 4 p.m.

Chemainus’s own Riot Brewing is running the ever-popular beer garden this year, while Cowichan Minor Football will operate the concession.

Two fundraisers are also running alongside Sun Bowl. Proceeds from shirt sales will go toward helping the Cowichan Preschool next to McAdam Park build a new fence. Beer koozies are also being sold for $15 apiece with proceeds going to the family of former CWFL and Sun Bowl referee Bruce (Peewee) Klaassen, who passed away earlier this year.
